- Non-inflammatory arthritis.
- Primarily a disease that affects the smooth articular cartilage that covers the ends of our bones within the joint.
- Also affects the bone underlying the cartilage (subchondral bone), causing thickening and rigidity along with minute fractures that may be the cause of some of the pain associated with arthritis.
- Is the most common form of arthritis and likely exists to some degree in all individuals over 65.
- Women are affected more than men.
